What does it mean to be Human...
...“Human”... “humus”... “of the Earth”...
What does it mean to be human? “Human”... “humus”... “of the Earth”...
Entangled with and enchanted by the entire cosmos, the entire world. Irremovable and irreplaceable; both a child of and ancestor to all creation.
The gifts that humanity brings to this world can be hard to see, especially today, through the chaos of our destructive, ego-centric actions against our home, our planet, our mother.
As a young species, we lived in harmony with her, honoring and respecting all of existence. Reciprocity was our guiding force in all things. Harmony and balance prevailed. Now as a species in its teenage years, we have slammed doors, dammed rivers and clear-cut forests in harsh rebellion against the truths that have been written on our bones. The Truth of Connection, the Truth of Source.
“I hate you” our actions seem to say
“I don't want to be anything like you.”
“I am different, I am better, I am more.”
"You are nothing to me."
The consequence of these tantrums of discontent and denial lay before us now. Stark, unavoidable, and piling up ever higher.
The path we will choose to walk towards adulthood remains unclear...
Will it be a scorched and barren road, devoid of other life and kinless, completely and utterly disconnected?
Or will the chosen path be green and bright and welcoming - like a homecoming?
Will we make reparations and apologies? Will we ask for forgiveness for all that we did when we had forgotten who we were? Will we remember?
Get quiet and listen, reach out - for the first time in a long time – towards that connection. The direction we must walk to survive as a species and thrive as a collective Earth community presents itself daily to us through the language of the earth. This is a language our bodies once knew - one that our minds have forgotten - but one we can learn again.
The earth calls out to us in every moment - every sunbeam, every flower, every thunderstorm, every rainbow. If we learn how to truly listen once more, we will hear her, feel her, find her in each moment, begin to know her and see her in every breath. She is constantly reminding us of who we are, off where we came from, and of what it means to truly be human.
